Nail Health at Mitty

Beautiful nails start with healthy nails.

At Mitty Nails & Beauty, we believe beautiful nails should never come at the expense of your natural nails.

Nail health influences every part of what we do, from how we prepare your nails and care for your cuticles to the products we use, how we cure them and how we safely remove them.

Our goal isn't just for your nails to look incredible when you leave our Fitzroy salon. We want your natural nails cared for underneath, appointment after appointment.

SCIENCE • TECHNIQUE • NAIL HEALTH • HYGIENE • CARE

Nail health isn't an add-on. It's how we work.

A beautiful manicure is only part of a great nail service.

Technique matters. Product matters. Hygiene matters. Removal matters. And the condition of your natural nails matters.

That's why our nail technicians are trained to assess your nails and adapt your service where needed rather than treating every set of nails exactly the same.

Gentle preparation

More filing doesn't mean better retention.

We carefully prepare the natural nail while avoiding unnecessary over-filing and thinning.

Thoughtful product application

The right product, structure and application can vary depending on your natural nails, lifestyle and the result you're trying to achieve.

Correct curing

Gel products need to be applied and cured correctly. Product thickness, curing time and compatible professional systems all matter.

Careful removal

Picking, peeling and aggressive removal can damage the natural nail.

We focus on controlled removal and maintenance techniques designed to preserve the natural nail underneath.

Cuticle care

Healthy-looking nails aren't just about the nail plate. Careful cuticle preparation and ongoing hydration are an important part of maintaining your manicure and the skin surrounding your nails.

BIAB and natural nail growth

Want stronger-looking natural nails with structure and support?

BIAB, also known as builder gel, can be a great option for clients wanting to grow their natural nails while maintaining a polished, long-lasting manicure.

But BIAB isn't magic.

Preparation, application, structure, curing, maintenance and removal all influence the result.

That's why we focus just as much on how BIAB is applied as the product itself.

LEARN ABOUT BIAB & NATURAL NAIL GROWTH

Weak, peeling or damaged nails?

Not every nail needs the same solution.

If your nails are weak, peeling, breaking, over-filed or recovering from previous enhancements, let us know.

Depending on the condition of your nails, we may recommend adjusting your service, shortening your nails, changing your maintenance routine or considering a strengthening treatment such as IBX.

Sometimes the healthiest recommendation is also knowing when not to apply a product.

TAKE OUR NAIL QUIZ

Hygiene is part of nail health.

A nail service should be beautiful, but it should also be clean.

At Mitty, hygiene is built into our salon procedures, including hand washing, our approach to files and tools, workstation cleanliness and salon protocols.

These aren't extras or upgrades.

They're simply part of how we believe a professional nail salon should operate.

DISCOVER HYGIENE AT MITTY

Our technicians never stop learning.

Nail products, techniques and industry knowledge continue to evolve, and so does our team.

Our technicians receive ongoing training and quality assessments covering areas including preparation, application, structure, shape, finish, retention, hygiene and client care.

Because consistency doesn't happen by accident.

Nail science, without the jargon.

There's a lot of confusing nail advice online.

Does BIAB damage nails? Why does gel lift? Do nails need to breathe? Why do some manicures last longer than others? What should you look for when choosing a nail salon?

We believe clients deserve clear, practical information about their nails.

That's why we regularly share nail health, BIAB, aftercare and salon advice through Mitty's Nail Corner.

EXPLORE NAIL TIPS & ADVICE

Healthy doesn't have to mean boring.

We take nail health seriously.

Your nails? They can be anything but serious.

Minimal BIAB, classic French, chrome, detailed hand-painted designs, 3D nail art or something completely unique, caring for your natural nails doesn't mean giving up the nails you love.

That's the Mitty difference.

Nail health questions we hear all the time

Does BIAB damage your natural nails?

1

BIAB itself isn't automatically damaging to the natural nail. Preparation, application, maintenance and removal technique all play an important role in the condition of the natural nail underneath.

Do nails need to breathe between appointments?

2

No. Nails receive oxygen and nutrients through the blood supply rather than from the air. Whether taking a break is appropriate depends on the condition of your nails and the service being performed.

Should removing gel hurt??

3

A professional removal should not rely on aggressively scraping, peeling or excessively filing the natural nail. If something feels uncomfortable during your service, tell your technician.

Can damaged nails become healthy again?

4

The visible nail plate is made from keratin and existing damage cannot simply be reversed. However, nails continually grow from the nail matrix, so protecting new growth and avoiding further trauma can make a significant difference over time.

Beautiful nails. Healthy foundations.

Whether you're growing your natural nails, recovering from previous damage, looking for long-lasting BIAB or simply want incredible nail art, we'll help you choose a service that suits your nails.
