How We Train Our Team
At Mitty, we believe beautiful nails start with knowledge, practice, and consistency. That’s why education is built into the way we work. Every technician at Mitty is supported through structured, ongoing training so you can feel completely confident every time you sit down in our chair.
When you book with us, you’re not just booking a nail service, you’re booking into a salon where training is part of our culture.
A Strong Start: Our Two-Week Induction
Every new team member begins their journey at Mitty with a two-week induction program. During this time, they learn not only our hygiene protocols and salon systems, but also how to deliver services to the Mitty standard.
This induction covers:
Nail health and prep techniques
Hygiene procedures (from sterilising tools to setting up safe workstations)
Core services like BIAB, gel polish, extensions and art basics
Client care and communication — making sure every appointment feels welcoming and consistent
By the time a technician sees their first client at Mitty, they’ve already had two weeks of hands-on learning focused on quality, safety and client experience.
The Skill Matrix
We don’t believe in “winging it.” Every technician is guided by our Mitty Skill Matrix — a structured framework that maps out skills at every level
The Skill Matrix covers:
Hygiene and safety benchmarks
Nail prep and structure standards
Retention checks and quality audits
Nail art levels, from simple to advanced
Speed and efficiency expectations
This system ensures every client gets the same high level of service, no matter which technician you book. It also allows us to identify strengths and areas to improve, so your tech is always progressing.
Weekly Half-Day Training
Multiple times throughout the year, the entire team comes together for a dedicated half-day training session. The salon doors close, and we focus purely on learning.
These sessions cover everything from:
Perfecting BIAB structure and retention
Practising new nail art techniques and seasonal trends
Refreshing hygiene and safety practices
Role-playing client care scenarios to improve communication
By taking this time every week, we make sure your technician is not just keeping up with industry standards, they’re staying ahead of them.
Individualised Training
Every technician also receives personalised one-on-one training. We know each team member has their own strengths and growth areas, so we design training plans just for them.
This could mean extra practice on Russian manicure for one tech, or advanced nail art training for another. It might also be coaching on speed, structure, or even client communication. Whatever the focus, the result is the same: every tech is always improving, and you can trust that your nails are in skilled, supported hands.
Regular Audits and Assessments
Training doesn’t stop once a skill is learned. We conduct regular audits and assessments across the team to make sure everything stays consistent. This includes:
Hygiene audits (checking every step is followed perfectly)
Retention tests (so your nails last the way they should)
Quality checks on structure, shape, and finish
This constant review means you can book confidently, knowing our quality is never left to chance.
Why This Matters for You
Our training is designed with one goal: to give you the best possible experience.
You’ll always know your technician is highly trained and supported
You can expect consistent results, no matter who you book
You can relax knowing hygiene and safety are non-negotiable
Your nails will be beautiful, healthy and long-lasting, every single time
At Mitty, training isn’t something we do once and forget. It’s built into our DNA. From two-week inductions, to weekly half-day training, to individualised coaching and audits, we never stop learning — so you can always book with confidence.
Because you deserve more than good nails. You deserve the Mitty standard.
